Research Center for Society and Culture (P2KK) is a research institution formally established in 1986 after as part of Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). This research center focuses on various topics related to social and cultural issues in Indonesia. In recent years, research on this center is classified into five cluster:
1. Multiculturalism,
2. Religion and Philosophy,
3. Natural Resources, Maritime and Forest,
4. Law and Society,
5. Urban and Rural Society.
Result from these research are disseminated into books, policy papers, proceedings, dictionary, and journals. Over centuries, the people of Hadhramaut (South Yemen) have spread and contributed a massive history throughout the world. As their voyage had reached Indonesia, one of the oldest civilizations in South Asia, this community also played a major role in this archipelago which is worth its own focus for study and research purposes. MENARA is a study and research center focusing on Arab in Indonesia as the subject, compiling data and files for the basic of study and research. Research by MENARA will be using variety of methods, collaborating with diverse parties in any kind of projects and activities with the output results will vary, from scientific journals to arts related to the subject Arab in Indonesia.

Balai Penelitian dan Pengembangan (Litbang) Agama Jakarta or Institute for Religious Research and Development, is administratively under the structure of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, The Republic of Indonesia. It was first established in 1978 and previously known as Balai Penelitian Agama dan Masyarakat (Balitamas) or Institute of Research in Religion and Society. Since its inception, the main task of this institute has been to conduct research in the field of religion and society, as a means to educate and cultivate religious life within the nation of Indonesia. This main task is directed to three main objectives namely; 1) to increase knowledge and understanding of all issues in the field of religion and society, 2) to deepen and expand the knowledge about Indonesian’s religious life, and 3) to deepen the knowledge about the state administration that leads to the advancement of religious life in Indonesian society.

From 2004 onwards, this institute has widened its duties and functions to conduct research and development not only in the field of religious life, but also in education and literatures mainly within Islamic community. The working area of the institute covers 13 (thirteen) provinces mostly in the western part of Indonesia as follows: the capital city of Jakarta, West Java, Banten, Lampung, South Sumatera, Bangka Belitung, Jambi, Bengkulu, West Sumatera, Riau, Riau Islands, North Sumatra, And Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. The office has also published a quarterly journal of PENAMAS ( Although the journal publishes mainly the research findings of the institute, it welcomes other scholars to send their research findings.
